The waters off La Gomera's coasts are among the best whale watching areas in the world. Not because there are especially large whales here, but because more than 23 different species of whales and dolphins have been seen here in recent years.
All year round La Gomera has very good chances to observe the animals in their natural habitat and officially the sighting rate of the provider is over 90%. Of course we cannot give you a guarantee, because they are free-living animals, but the chances are more than good. Bottlenose dolphins, spotted dolphins and pilot whales are the "usual suspects" here. But at certain times of the year, with a little luck, you can also spot sperm whales, Bryde whales or humpback whales.
The provider Oceano Gomera has its boats in the harbour of the holiday resort Valle Gran Rey and this operates for over 20 years respectful whale watching in combination with research and educational work. The trips take place in small, typically Canarian fishing boats, an adventurous experience of a special kind. Oceano does without tourist programs such as paella, red wine and music, but there are trained and highly motivated guides on board, who provide information about the different species and their habitats during the trip. A maximum of 10 guests are taken on board per trip, so that each tour is something very special.
The whale watching trips with Oceano take place 2x daily from Monday to Saturday, always at 09:30 and 15:00 (in summer 15:30). Exciting sunrise or sunset tours are also offered at regular intervals, if required please ask us. The excursions usually last 3-4 hours and there is water, fresh ginger tea and biscuits on board. A tour costs 40,00€ p.P. and children up to 11 years pay only 26,00€ p.P. (Babies up to 1 year are free).
If you have any further questions about the excursions or the prices, we will be happy to answer them! After your non-binding booking / inquiry we will contact the supplier and within 24h you will receive a confirmation or an alternative appointment.
